Zachary Laoutides is an American actor and writer. His father was a football player of Sephardic, Greek, Turkish heritage and a quarter Slovenian with small amounts of Scandinavian.
Through his Jewish lineage, Zachary is a direct descendant of Levites from both the HaLevi and Benveniste families of Spain. The rest of Zachary’s ancestry is mostly Slovenian, along with some Polish and distant Scandinavian. Zachary’s maternal grandmother’s family was from Russia of Polish lineage and part Sephardic background, while one of Zachary’s parental great-grandmothers was Jewish (of Spanish Jewish, Moroccan Jewish, Indian Jewish, with remote Latino roots).
Zachary’s paternal grandmother’s family ‘Laoutides’ (coming from the Arabic word ‘al-lud’ the musical instrument his family ancestors used to build and play) were from the Aegean Islands and Smyrna Turkey of Greek, Turkish and Sephardic heritage. Both of Zachary’s grandfather’s families were from Austria of Slovenian origin, with his paternal grandfather being half Sephardic and related to the Horowitz rabbinic family.
Zachary co-founded the first Hispanic film company in Chicago and the Midwest with producer Monica Esmeralda Leon from Mexico.
