Charlie Siem is a British contemporary classical violinist.
He is the son of Karen and Kristian Siem, a billionaire businessperson, who has been chairman of Subsea 7 and Siem Industries, with interests in oil, gas, and shipping. His father is Norwegian. His mother is South African, and is Ashkenazi Jewish. His paternal grandfather, Martin Siem, was a businessperson, and WWII Resistance member in Norway. His great-grandfather, Ole Siem, was a naval officer, businessperson, and politician, who also participated in the WWII Norwegian Resistance, being head of sea transport during the Battles of Narvik in 1940. Ole was successively director of shipping companies Troms Fylkes Dampskibsselskap and Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab. His great-uncle was diplomat Thore Boye, who was married to his great-aunt Nøste Siem.
Charlie is the brother of singer, songwriter, and composer Sasha Siem, visual artist and healing arts and yoga teacher Sophie Madeleine Siem, and artist and model Louisa Tatiana Kristianne Siem.
Charlie is married to Countess Viola Arrivabene Valenti Gonzaga. Countess Viola is the daughter of Count Giberto Arrivabene Valenti Gonzaga and Princess Bianca of Savoy-Aosta.
Charlie’s paternal grandfather was Ole Martin Siem (the son of Ole Siem and Marie Augusta Ursin Holm). Martin was born in Horten, Vestfold. Charlie’s great-grandfather Ole was born in Trondheim, Sør-Trøndelag, the son of Martin Olsen Siem/Budsjord and Gjertrud Christlock. Marie was the daughter of Martinius Christian Holm and Augusta Sofia Ursin.
Charlie’s paternal grandmother was Inger Aagard (the daughter of Kristian Lenning Aagaard and Lilly Aleksandra Andreassen). Inger was born in Tromsø, Troms. Charlie’s maternal grandmother is Edna Fay Jacobson (the daughter of Harry Jacobson and Matilda Scorotofsky). Edna was born in Hackney, London, England, and was a stage actress.
