His father Samuel/Simon Marx was born in Mertzwiller, Alsace. His mother Minnie/Miene Schönberg was born in Dornum, Lower Saxony.
He had two children with his former wife, chorus girl Ruth Johnson, and a daughter with his former wife, Kay Marvis.
