Marc is the son of Elieanor/Eleanor/Elinor (Hertz) Bernstein and Michael Butan. Marc’s parents are Jewish.
Marc’s paternal grandfather was Louis Butan (the son of Abraham “Abe” Butan/Butansky and Fannie Wallach). Abraham was born in Baranowitz, Russia, the son of Eliezer Butansky and Leah Kuncewieki. Fannie was the daughter of parents from Austria, Max Wallach and Rosa.
Marc’s paternal grandmother was Hannah Rhea Sloan (the daughter of Maurice Sloan and Belle Goldbus). Maurice was born in Poland, the son of Theodore Sloan and Lena Freedman. Belle was born in New York, to parents from Poland, Nathan Goldbus and Sarah E. Allenberg.
