Ehud Olmert is an Israeli politician and lawyer. He served as the 12th Prime Minister of Israel, from 14 April, 2006 to 31 March, 2009 (acting from 4 January, 2006, upon Ariel Sharon’s incapacity). He was also Mayor of Jerusalem, from 2 November, 1993 to 16 February, 2003.
His parents, Bella (Vugman) and Mordechai Olmert, were Russian Jewish and Ukrainian Jewish immigrants, who moved to Harbin, China, and then to Israel. His father was a politician, who was a member of the Knesset for Herut, from 1955 to 1961.
Prime Minister Olmert is married to artist Aliza Richter, with whom he has four children.
Prime Minister Olmert’s paternal grandfather was named Yosef Olmert.
